Our near perfect climate here in Great Britain means we are lucky not to play host to some of nature’s utterly fearsome insects:

No.1  Japanese Hornet.

Vespa mandarinia japanonica

This is a truly fearsome creature – the size of your thumb, capable of spraying a flesh melting poison, oh yes, and it flies (up to 50 miles a day). Surely it would leave you alone if you didn’t bother it, don’t be so sure… this marauding predator is always on the hunt for food and when it sprays poison – usually into the eyes of its prey – it also sends out a pheromone for all the other giant hornets in its nest to come and do the same. Consequently at least 40 people a year are killed by this terror. Nasty!
